The “Old School” Mistake: Link Spamming
Back in the day, people thought internal linking was just about slapping as many links as possible onto a page.
They do highlight every third word in blue, hoping that it would help them rank.
Why it doesn’t work:
* It’s Annoying: It creates a messy, cluttered experience that makes it impossible for a reader to focus.
* It is Unnatural: If you link to five different things in the first paragraph, you are not guiding the reader, you’re distracting them.
The Modern Way: Connecting the Dots
Today, internal linking is about context and relevance.
You want to create a path that makes sense for the reader’s journey.
If you are writing about “how to start a blog,” and you have already written an article on “how to pick a domain name,” that’s a perfect place to drop a link.
