1. NordVPN Review: Best for Everyday Online Privacy
NordVPN is a strong option for people who want a combination of privacy, speed and convenient security features.
Its VPN service encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN server, helping reduce what your local network and internet provider can observe. Websites generally see the VPN server’s IP address rather than your regular public IP address.
Its features include:
- NordLynx: A protocol designed for fast VPN connections.
- Kill Switch: Helps block internet traffic if the VPN connection drops.
- Double VPN: Routes traffic through two VPN servers.
- Threat Protection: Offers tools designed to block malicious websites, trackers and other online threats, depending on the plan and configuration.
- Independent privacy assessments: NordVPN has commissioned independent reviews of its no-logs practices.
NordVPN is suitable for people who regularly use public Wi-Fi, travel or want a straightforward privacy tool without configuring everything manually.
However, it is not the cheapest choice for everyone. Promotional prices can differ from renewal prices, so check the full subscription terms before paying.
Verdict: A compelling all-round option for users who want privacy alongside additional security features.

2. Proton VPN Review: Best for Privacy-Conscious Users
Proton VPN is worth considering if transparency and privacy are your main priorities.
The service comes from Proton, the company behind privacy-focused products such as Proton Mail. Proton VPN offers open-source applications, modern VPN protocols and a published no-logs policy that has undergone independent assessments.
Notable features include:
- Open-source apps: People can inspect publicly available application code.
- Secure Core: Routes traffic through privacy-focused servers before reaching the exit server.
- Free plan: Provides a way to start using a VPN without an initial subscription.
- Paid options: Offer additional features and server choices.
Proton VPN is especially appealing to users who want to examine a provider’s privacy approach instead of relying entirely on marketing claims.
The free version is useful for ordinary privacy protection, although it has limitations compared with paid subscriptions. Users who need more server choice or advanced features should compare the current plans.
Our honest Verdict: A strong choice for people who value transparency and want a reputable free option.
