Public Wi-Fi Security: What You Should Never Do on Hotel, Airport and Cafe Wi-Fi

3. Don’t use the same password everywhere

Public Wi-Fi isn’t the only security concern.

If one of your accounts is compromised and you have reused the same password across multiple services, the problem can quickly become much bigger.

You should use strong, unique passwords for important accounts.

A password manager can also make this much easier because you don’t have to memorize dozens of different passwords.

4. Keep your devices updated

That notification telling you to update your phone or computer may be annoying, but security updates often address vulnerabilities.

Before travelling or working from unfamiliar locations, make sure your operating system, browser and important applications are up to date.

Your device’s security tools should also be enabled.

5. Be careful about what you download

A public network is not the place to become careless with downloads.

Meanwhile, Avoid downloading unknown files, opening suspicious attachments or installing software simply because a pop-up tells you that you need it.

If something asks you to install an unfamiliar application, then close it and investigate first.
