What Is an IP Address?
Think of an IP address as a temporary digital address assigned to your device when you connect to the internet.
Websites use it to communicate with your device and deliver information back to you.
Depending on your internet setup, your IP address may change automatically from time to time. In other cases, you may need to take specific steps to get a different one.
Step 1: Restart Your Internet Router
This is often the simplest place to start.
Turn off your router and leave it disconnected for a few minutes before turning it back on.
Some internet service providers assign dynamic IP addresses, meaning you may receive a different IP address when your connection reconnects.
However, this will not work for everyone. Some providers may assign the same address again.
After reconnecting, you can check whether your public IP address has changed by searching for “What is my IP address” in your browser.
